The Rohde & Schwarz FSP40 spectrum analyzer is a wide band, very sensitive receiver. It works on the principle of “super-heterodyne receiver” to convert higher frequencies (normally ranging up to several 10s of GHz) to measurable quantities. The received frequency spectrum is slowly swept through a range of pre-selected frequencies, converting the selected frequency to a measurable DC level (usually logarithmic scale), and displaying the same on the CRT of the Rohde & Schwarz, Inc. FSP40. The CRT displays received signal strength (y-axis) against frequency (x-axis).

# 0.07 dB linearity uncertainty is ideal for precise measurements, for example of gain control and ACPR
# RMS detector with 100 dB dynamic range measures power fast and accurately irrespective of the signal shape – almost like a thermal power sensor
# The displayed average noise level of typ. -155 dBm (1 Hz) is attained without the use of preamplifiers and thus without any reduction in dynamic range
# Typ. -145 dBc (1 Hz) phase noise at 10 MHz offset offers optimum conditions for ACPR measurements on W-CDMA systems.
